Enter the world of manifestation, a concept that’s been buzzing louder than your alarm on a Monday morning. And who better to guide us through this journey than the queen of getting-it-done herself, Mel Robbins?

What Is Manifestation, Anyway?

First things first, let’s clear up what manifestation is. No, it’s not waving a magic wand or just thinking positive thoughts while binge-watching Netflix. (Although, if that worked, I’d have won the lottery by now.) Manifestation is like training for what you want. It’s preparing your mind, body, and spirit for the things you truly desire. It’s about preparing your body, mind, and nervous system to do the work that’s necessary to get what you want. It’s like setting your GPS to your dream destination—but you still have to drive there.

Mel Robbins’ Take on Manifesting

Mel Robbins, the powerhouse author and motivational speaker, has a refreshingly practical approach to manifestation. According to her, it’s not just about sitting around and wishing for things to happen. It’s about visualizing your goals but also visualizing each tiny action you need to take to achieve said goal. Mel’s all about that no-nonsense, get-up-and-go attitude. And let’s be real, sometimes we all need a little kick in the you-know-where to get moving.

How to Start Manifesting Like a Pro

Now, let’s get to the fun part—how to actually start manifesting your best life. Here’s a step-by-step guide:

  1. Figure out what you want: You can’t manifest what you don’t know you want. Take some time to figure out what you really desire. Whether it’s a promotion at work, a healthier lifestyle, or finding love, be specific. It can be big or small. Today or in your lifetime. But remember, vague wishes lead to vague results, and nobody wants that.
  2. Visualize the steps that lead you to what you want (NOT the end goal): If you only focus on the end goal, you will quickly feel demotivated because often your current situation is so far away from your end goal that it’ll seem impossible to reach it. In this case, your end goal will often remain a daydream. Manifesting isn’t about the end goal; it’s about what comes in between. When you visualize doing the work, visualizing leads you to actually doing the work. It’s only through actions that you will get the result that you want.
  3. Feel deeply what it feels like to do these things/actions that get you closer to what you truly desire. Feel all the emotions, all the steps, the good and the bad. This trains your body and mind to take the necessary actions for you to move closer/reach your end goal. Your brain can’t tell the difference between you visualizing doing those things and you actually doing them. So, if you close your eyes and visualize studying for a test—sitting down, opening the book, reading the words, taking notes, going to class, being tired but keep reading, etc,—it’s easier to actually study for the test because, in your brain, you’ve already done it. Remember: see/visualize/feel yourself doing all the work and feel proud of yourself for pushing through all the obstacles in your way.
  4. You need to do the work! Only through your actions will you ever accomplish the things you want. Stop staring at the end goal and stop making excuses; you must put your head down and look at the first step in front of you, then take action and start walking toward what you want.

Common Manifestation Mistakes (And How to Avoid Them)

Even with the best intentions, we can sometimes sabotage our own manifestation efforts. Here are a few common pitfalls—and how to avoid them:

  • Overthinking It: Manifestation isn’t about obsessing over every detail. Set your intention, visualize, and then let it go. Trust the process, as they say.
  • Focusing on What You Don’t Want: The universe doesn’t do negatives very well. If you’re constantly thinking about what you don’t want, guess what? You’re more likely to get it. Shift your focus to what you do want.
  • Not Taking Action: Remember, manifesting isn’t just about thinking—it’s about doing. If you’re not taking steps toward your goals, you’re just daydreaming. And while there’s nothing wrong with a good daydream, it’s not going to pay the bills.
