This post is about decluttering and organizing.

We’ve all been there. You open a drawer, a closet, or (let’s be real) your entire living room… and BOOM — an avalanche of random junk comes crashing down, and suddenly you’re questioning all your life choices.
Decluttering sounds simple — until you realize you might have a slight emotional attachment to expired coupons and that sweater you haven’t worn since 2013.
Don’t worry. I’ve got you.
Here’s how to declutter any area quickly — and maybe even have some fun doing it:
1. Start small (seriously, DO NOT start with the garage)
Pick one drawer, one shelf, or one countertop.
Decluttering the entire kitchen at once sounds noble… but next thing you know, it’s 2 a.m., you’re questioning the meaning of life, and your blender is missing.
🎯 Focus: One tiny zone. Crush it. Move on.
2. Set a timer (because otherwise, you’ll accidentally start scrapbooking)
Before you even touch anything, set a timer for 15–30 minutes.
When you know there’s an end in sight, you’ll work faster and avoid the dreaded “I found my high school yearbook and now I’m crying” situation.
⏰ Pro Tip: Play upbeat music. No sad Adele songs while you declutter. You’ll thank me later.
3. Use the 4-Pile System (aka, the “Why Do I Own This?” Method)
Create four piles:
- Keep (I actually use this and it sparks minor joy)
- Donate (Someone else could rock this)
- Trash (Goodbye, broken pen collection)
- Relocate (This doesn’t belong here but I’m too lazy to put it away right now)
🏆 Your goal: Be ruthless. If you hesitate for more than 3 seconds… you probably don’t need it.

4. Ask yourself the Magic Questions
When you’re stuck holding a random item (I’m gonna use an imaginary example 😉 – let’s say a decorative soap shaped like a dolphin), ask yourself:
- Have I used this in the last year?
- If I saw this in a store today, would I buy it again?
- Would I cry if this was mysteriously abducted by aliens?
- If this item had poop on it, would I clean it or throw it out?
If the answer is “no,” you know what to do.
5. Use baskets and bins (because even junk looks cuter in a basket)
If you have stuff you need to keep, contain it.
Nothing says “I have my life together” like a bunch of woven baskets hiding your chaos.
🧺 Tip: Label things! Future You will be forever grateful when you’re not digging through ten bins labeled “miscellaneous.”
6. Maintain Your Progress
Decluttering isn’t a one-time task or an ’I’m gonna get my life together in an afternoon’ kind of thing; it’s a daily habit.
Incorporate a quick daily decluttering session for 10 minutes or weekly tidy-up sessions to maintain the space you’ve just worked on and to keep it clutter-free. The name of the game is consistency. Consistency and discipline are the virtues that will help you ensure that your space stays organized over time.
7. Celebrate like a legend
Once you finish an area, step back and admire your masterpiece.
Maybe do a small victory dance. Maybe scream, “I AM THE MASTER OF MY DOMAIN.” (Optional, but highly recommended.)
🎉 Reward yourself with a coffee, a nap, or at least a smug Instagram story.
Always remember that progress doesn’t mean perfection; it means progress. And on this blog, we salute progress over perfection any day of the week. You’ve got this. Now go forth and declutter like the organizational boss you were always meant to be! 💪
